TRAFFIC SIGNAL TECH I

General Functions
  

This key position performs entry level routine repairs, maintenance, construction, and inspection of traffic signal systems and equipment.

Work is performed under the direct supervision of the Signal Shop Supervision staff and is reviewed through meetings, conferences, reports, and results achieved.

 
Representative Duties /Assignments
  

Duties may vary based on area of assignment. The following are representative duties, it is not the intent to capture all duties performed by this classification.

  • Assists in the installation of detection, communication, and signal cable (overhead/underground).
  • Assists in installation, preventative maintenance, and repair of traffic signal equipment.
  • Assists in programming signal control equipment; compiles data reports and performs conflict monitor testing.
  • Operates hand/power tools and diagnostic equipment.
  • May operate lifts, bucket trucks, auger trucks, forklifts, or trenchers.
  • Works with electrical systems (low voltage and 120-240V).
  • Sets traffic control devices, monitors traffic safety, escorts house/structure movers.
  • Cleans and services vehicles, equipment, and tools.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
 
Minimum Qualifications
  

High school diploma or equivalent and documented completion of vocational training in construction, electricity, or electronics; or one (1) year of related experience may be substituted for the vocational training.

Must possess and maintain a State of Florida Driver’s License.

Must obtain and maintain the State Maintenance of Traffic training within three (3) months of hire.

Must pass the Traffic Signal Technician I entry level test at 70% or greater within six (6) months of hire .

Must obtain and maintain the International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) Level I certification within twelve (12) months of hire.

 
Preferences
  

Ability to read and interpret schematics and/or blueprints.

Ability to troubleshoot electrical and electronic circuitry.

Basic computer skills include utilizing word processing, spreadsheet, and email software.
