This position is responsible for ensuring compliance with National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards as they pertain to firefighting protective ensembles.
Work is performed with considerable independence and the exercise of independent judgment under the general supervision of the Battalion Chief of Supply. Work is evaluated through timeliness, observation, and reports on compliance with NFPA . |

| Representative Duties /Assignments |
| |
Duties may vary based on area of assignment. The following are representative duties; it is not the intent to capture all duties performed by this classification.
- Cleans, inspects and repairs firefighting protective ensemble for serviceability according to national standards.
- Ensures firefighters are properly sized and fitted in protective ensembles to safely perform assigned duties .
- Researches trends, identifies causes of premature failure, and provides recommendations for the care, service, and improvement of firefighting protective ensembles.
- Provides training and education to firefighters on inspection and decontamination procedures for protective ensembles in accordance with national standards.
- Conducts annual inspections and/or decontamination of gear.
- Participates in committee to review current and future specification requirements set for firefighting protective gear.
- Maintains knowledge of current and future national standards for protective ensembles.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

| Minimum Qualifications |
| |
High school diploma or equivalent and six (6) months of experience in cleaning and inspection firefighting protective ensemble. An equivalent combination of education or experience may be substituted. |
