PHARMACY TECHNICIAN

General Functions
  

The purpose of the pharmacy technician is to assist the pharmacist with the day-to-day activities in the pharmacy.

Work is performed under the direct supervision of the Pharmacist.

 
Representative Duties /Assignments
  

Duties may vary based on area of assignment. The following are representative duties, it is not the intent to capture all duties performed by this classification.

  • Assists pharmacists in the preparation, dispensing, packaging, labeling, and distribution of medications in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, County policies, and departmental procedures.
  • Enters prescription, patient, and medication information into the pharmacy information system for pharmacist verification and maintains accurate, confidential pharmacy records.
  • Assists with ordering, receiving, stocking, rotating, and reconciling medication inventory, including identifying expired or recalled medications.
  • Maintains a clean, organized, and secure pharmacy environment.
  • Communicates professionally with patients, healthcare providers, vendors, correctional staff, nursing staff, and other County employees; answers routine telephone inquiries within the pharmacy technician scope of practice.
  • Assists pharmacists in maintaining safe and efficient pharmacy operations, including inventory management and quality assurance activities.
  • Maintains required training and continuing education and attends meetings as directed.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Corrections Health Services

  • Prepares individual medication orders, including prescription refills, medication cart stock orders, and unit-dose blister cards for pharmacist verification.
  • Performs medication order data entry for pharmacist verification.
  • Assists with perpetual inventory, inventory reconciliation, and billing reports.
  • Coordinates medication deliveries throughout the correctional facility while maintaining medication security and chain of custody.
  • Assists the Consultant Pharmacist and pharmacists with medication room inspections, medication cart inspections, and regulatory compliance activities.

Medical Clinic

  • Performs prescription processing functions, including prescription intake, refill processing, data entry, medication preparation, labeling, and pre-filling, for pharmacist verification.
  • Coordinates medication ordering, inventory replenishment, and medication storage.
  • Assists with Patient Assistance Program enrollment, product receipt, and record keeping.
  • Communicates with patients regarding prescription availability and routine pharmacy procedures.
  • Assists pharmacists with inventory management and quality assurance activities.
  • Performs cashier functions, including receiving patient co-payments, reconciling the cash drawer, and delivering daily deposits to the Cashier's Office at the County Administration Building.
  • Works the prescripton drop off and pick up window, when assigned.
 
Minimum Qualifications
  

High school diploma or equivalent.

Possess and maintain in good standing active Florida Board of Pharmacy - Pharmacy Technician Registration or be enrolled in an approved pharmacy technician training program and receive registration upon completion.
Possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License

Pharmacy Technician experiance in a retail, hospital, or longterm care setting. 

Knowledge of prescription direction codes (BID, TID, QID, etc...)

 
Preferences
  

Certified Pharmacy Technician Experience and knowledge of use and dispensing of medications and treatment.

Knowledge of brand and generic drug names.

Microsoft Office software knowledge.
