General Functions |
|
Performs professional nursing work requiring specialized skill and judgment in the care and treatment of patients.
This is professional nursing work in the care and treatment of patients in and out-patient facility of various clinics and preparing patients for medical examination and follow-up plans depending on the assigned area. Responsibilities include delegating, advising, and directing clinical support staff.
This is independent work which is performed without direct supervision or detailed instructions. This position reports to a higher-level nursing supervisor or a program manager. |

Representative Duties /Assignments |
|
Duties may vary based on area of assignment. The following are representative duties, it is not the intent to capture all duties performed by this classification.
- Provides physical, emotional, and spiritual support to patients and their family members during periods of illness.
- Collaborates with the medical clinic physicians/pharmacist in monitoring medication administration records, checking for errors and educating the patient on medication compliance.
- Provides patient health counseling/instruction to manage their illnesses or injuries; in conjunction with medical clinic office visit, outpatient visits, and/or post hospitalization.
- Provides patient care by recording medical history and symptoms, scheduling labs and diagnostic testing, and arranging external specialty consultations.
- Documents the physician's treatment plan and ensures referrals for high acuity level visits are completed as ordered. Reviews results and communicates assessment/results back to physicians.
- Formulates patient education care plans to include medical and personal history, medications, and follow up orders.
- Charts and records administration of treatments and observes patients for deviations from normal conditions.
- Prepares clinical charts.
- Participates in in-service, training programs.
- Sets up out-patient clinics, admits and prepares patients for medical examinations and assists a doctor in examining and treating patients in the therapies, medications and treatments prescribed.
- Performs related duties as required.
Head Start
- Provides medical knowledge expertise to issues confronted by Health Services staff Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) and Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) when identifying concerns in enrolled Head Start Children.
- Assists in reviewing Head Start Children staff enrollment files for school entry.
- Completes and provides guidance to LPN how to complete and follow-through with children's Individual Health Action Plans and Medication Orders.
- Meets one-on-one with each LPN and CNA to monitor performance, provide coaching, and ensure achievement of health. Conducts performance evaluation for LPN and CNAs.
- Assists LPN and CNAs with parental consultation when a medical concern has been identified in enrolled Head Start children. Supports LPN and CNAs with provision of Parent Training sessions, on topics related to health issues.
- Assists Program Manager with Payor of Last Resort from providers.
- Coordinates quality assurance practices and standardized practice development. Integrates healthcare quality practice curriculum, standards and practices to enhance nursing care and the nursing profession through policy evaluation, development, advocacy, and fostering healthy work environments.
- Monitors and schedules children's dental and physical examination appointments. Assigns and directs CNAs, as needed.
- Collaborates with community partners and establish agreements with healthcare partners.
- Performs and assists LPNs and CNAs with vision, hearing, blood pressure, and lead screenings.

Minimum Qualifications |
|
Graduation from an accredited Registered Nursing program and one (1) year of nursing experience.
Must possess a current Florida license as a Registered Nurse.
Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.

Preferences |
|
Proficient in personal computer use and electronic medical records.
Bi-lingual (English/Spanish).
Head Start
Two (2) years of nursing experience.
Office and data entry skills.
