This is a highly responsible position specializing in strategic public safety activities at the Division Manager level within the Fire-Rescue Department.

This position is responsible for planning, organizing, actuating, and controlling all functions of the Operations, Planning & Technical Services, and Logistics Divisions of Fire Rescue.

Work is performed with independence, applying both judgment and skill in handling job responsibilities, and assessing the effectiveness of methods and techniques used.

This is an appointed position and reports directly to the Fire Chief and/or the Deputy Fire Chief.

 
Representative Duties /Assignments
  

Duties may vary based on area of assignment. The following are representative duties, it is not the intent to capture all duties performed by this classification.

  • Applies knowledge of the principles, practices, procedures and equipment used in modern firefighting, rescue and fire prevention work to daily organizational decision making strategy.
  • The role is responsible for command and control of on-the-scene firefighting, fire prevention, firefighter training, or emergency medical services.
  • Ensures safe practices for emergency responders, fire prevention, fire safety code enforcement and fire reserves.
  • Responds to major incidents, and assumes command of the incident upon deeming such action as necessary and provides for the response of appropriate personnel to emergency incidents for the Division.
  • Plans, directs and coordinates the work of all personnel assigned to the Division.
  • Manages personnel issues, labor relations and provides support and guidance to manage day to day operations.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
 
Minimum Qualifications
  

Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts from an accredited college or university with major course work in fire science and administration, public administration, or a public safety related career field.

Must possess and maintain a State of Florida Firefighter Certification, State of Florida Emergency Medical Technician or Paramedic and Fire Officer II within 18-months from the date of hire.

Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License.

 
Preferences
  

Master's degree from an accredited institution approved by the United States Department of Education in Fire Science, Public Administration, Business Administration, or closely related field.

Completion of the Executive Fire Officer Program provided by the United States Fire Administration/National Fire Academy

Chief Fire Officer Designation through the Centers for Public Safety Excellence
