ASSISTANT MUSEUM CURATOR

General Functions
  

This position is responsible for educational program oversight in the History Center's education department.

Work is performed with considerable independence under the supervision of Museum Curator. Performance is reviewed through observations, reports and results achieved.

 
Representative Duties /Assignments
  

Duties may vary based on area of assignment. The following are representative duties; it is not the intent to capture all duties performed by this classification.

  • Responsible for  oversight of school services programs and educator professional development programs.
  • Overseas administrative coordination of school field trips and school outreach programs, including booking, handling contracts and invoices, receiving payments, maintaining the school program calendar, managing tour logistics, and scheduling actors.
  • In collaboration Museum Curator of Education, establishes learning objectives for education programs; ensure department goals and objectives are met and researches and maintains educational resources.
  • Develops and facilitates training for education staff and volunteers in a variety of museum-related practices, including interpretive techniques, educational programming methods, historical research approaches, and collections-based learning strategies.
  • Conducts historical research for and facilitates public speaking engagements on relevant historical topics.
  • Coordinates with the Museum Curator of Education to create, foster, and support interdepartmental initiatives and community collaborations with education partners.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
 
Minimum Qualifications
  

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and two (2) years of experience working in an educational or museum field. In lieu of the degree requirements, additional relevant experience may be substituted on a year for year basis.

 
Preferences
  

A degree in History, Public History, Education, Museum Studies, Museum Education, or another applicable field.

One (1) year of experience in a supervisory role.

Knowledge of Microsoft office suite.
