General Functions |
|
Responsible educational and administrative support to create a nurturing and developmentally appropriate learning environment for children aged three to five.This role involves planning and implementing educational activities, assessing individual learning needs, setting developmental goals, and preparing lesson plans tailored to early childhood education standards.
Work is performed with considerable independence and of independent judgment under the general supervision of the assigned supervisor.

Representative Duties /Assignments |
|

- Provides reports on learning outcomes, participation metrics, and program impact.
- Recommends and implements programs that include developmentally appropriate or youth development practices aligned with current research and standards of care.
- Maintains effective communication systems with parents, school personnel, and site coordinators.
- Assesses educational needs of children or youth participants to establish learning goals or tailor lesson content and engagement strategies.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Head Start
- Adheres to Head Start performance standards to ensure a high-quality classroom environment.
- Establishes learning goals and prepares weekly lesson plans with assistance of Assistant/Aide.
- Makes referrals for assistance with special needs children.
- Makes home visits to each family during school year and provides written progress reports to parents.
- Evaluates performance of Teacher Aide or Teacher Assistant.
- Performs Kitchen and Bus Duty.
- Enters accurate child data into the program’s database (Galileo).
Cooperative Extension
- Independently teaches 4-H youth development programs using research-based curricula (e.g., Learn, Grow, Eat, Go) at multiple school and community sites. Adapts lessons to engage diverse student populations and ensures program effectiveness.
- Manages program implementation across various locations, including schools, neighborhood centers, and recreation programs. Plans lesson schedules, organizes transportation, and ensures resource availability.
- Leads the 4-H Garden Angel volunteer program, recruiting, training, and coordinating Master Gardener Volunteers to support school garden initiatives. Tracks volunteer hours and impact.
- Oversees program expenditures, manages the P-Card for purchases, submits financial reports, and ensures compliance with budget policies.
- Coordinates the setup and maintenance of raised garden beds, supervises seasonal planting activities, orders materials, and ensures sustainability of school gardening projects.

Minimum Qualifications |
|
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License.
Must successfully pass a Level II Background Screening.
Must complete 45 hours of the Child Care Standards Administrative Code 65C-22.003 (2) & (6) State of Florida mandated training.
Must complete the State of Florida Child Care Staff Credential Verification Application, CF-FSP Form 5211, in order to verify they have met the State of Florida child care licensing qualifications. Verification will be documented on the Child Care Training Transcript, which is the only documentation used by licensing to determine compliance with the staff credential requirement.
Head Start
Education levels may include Associate’s, Bachelor’s, or Master’s degrees depending on credits, coursework, field of study and experience. (See Matrix)
Relevant credentials may include Child Development Associate (CDA) and completion of Early Childhood Education (ECE) coursework (typically 6 or 18 credits).
Cooperative Extension
Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field and at least two (2) years of experience in youth education, curriculum delivery, or program coordination in agriculture, horticulture, or nutrition. Experience must include lesson planning, volunteer management, budgeting, or hands-on learning with underserved communities. |

Preferences |
|
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), online learning platforms (Zoom, Teams, Canvas), and audio/visual equipment (projectors, cameras, microphones).
Head Start
Experience teaching preschool-age children.
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Early Childhood Education.
Cooperative Extension
Experience teaching or facilitating educational programs for elementary and middle school youth.
Familiarity with Cooperative Extension, 4-H, or other youth development programs.
Background in horticulture, agriculture, nutrition, or environmental education.
Experience with UF/IFAS Extension system.
