| General Functions |
| |
Performs highly skilled technical work for operation and maintenance of water and/or wastewater treatment plants, and solid waste processing and disposal facilities. Coordinates, directs and trains operations staff to achieve efficient operations in compliance with environmental regulations. Responds to emergencies to correct operating problems in a timely fashion.
Work performed with independent judgement under the general supervision of a designated supervisor. Work reviewed through observations, conferences, reports, and results achieved.

| Representative Duties /Assignments |
| |
Duties may vary based on area of assignment. The following are representative duties; it is not the intent to capture all duties performed by this classification.
- Guide, inform, and direct customers and staff in the respective areas while providing excellent customer service.
- Maintain records and documentation of system details to meet regulatory requirements and facilitate effective operation and maintenance programs, and compile information for Annual and Budget Status Reports.
- Maintain operation database and records; complete purchase order requests for supplies needed to complete jobs and for general operations.
- Supervise personnel, set schedules and provide daily assignments and direction.
- Assign lead roles and tasks for team members and demonstrate team building skills through consistent attendance; provide individual training to staff; demonstrate ability to positively resolve operational, personnel, permit and customer issues; and may be required to perform as acting Section Manager.
- Develop Standard Operating Procedures and contracting policies and procedures.
- Performs quality checks, responds to trouble calls and performs as standby supervisor, performs technical writing and public speaking.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Water and/or Wastewater
- Advanced troubleshooting of processes and equipment found in water or wastewater treatment facilities, such as chemical feed units and various level control systems, hydraulic and pneumatic equipment.
- Provides guidance to preventive and corrective maintenance on mixers, blowers, compressors, pumps, motors, and related equipment.
- Ensure compliance with Biosolids management plan.
- Collects process samples in accordance with approved protocol.

| Minimum Qualifications |
| |
High school diploma or equivalent and five (5) years of utilities related experience in an area to be specified based on area of responsibility. An equivalent combination of education or experience may be substituted.
Valid Florida driver's license may be required |

Associates degree in related field
Education and training involving mechanical, electrical, or instrumentation experience. |
