This key position is a semi-skilled role who performs operation and maintenance of a treatment facility in compliance with the requirements of the Utilities Health and Safety Manual. Participates in the analysis and troubleshooting of operational problems using available data and follows the proper course of action to meet plant operating objectives. May be assigned as team leader and to provide training.

Work requires some independent judgment and is performed under the supervision of a designated supervisor. Work is reviewed through observations, conferences, reports and results achieved.

Duties may vary based on area of assignment. The following are representative duties, it is not the intent to capture all duties performed by this classification.

High school diploma or equivalent. An equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted.

Must possess and maintain a valid State of Florida Driver's License.

Depending on the area of assignment, must possess the following:

Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) Mandated Class “B” Water or Wastewater License

Florida Commercial Driver’s License, or obtain within six (6) months of hire

Must demonstrate skill proficiency within one (1) year of hire by successfully passing both a written and a corresponding hands-on skill test, with a passing score of 70% or higher on each, in at least two (2) of the specialty areas listed below.

Treatment process control in advance water or wastewater systems

SCADA/DCS system operations of electronic equipment

Proficiency and use of computer software used in operation

Mechanical maintenance of the treatment facilities

Biosolids processing and management (Applies to Water Reclamation Division.)

 

Education, training, and/or experience in mechanical, electrical, or instrumentation.

Competency in basic mathematics, chemistry and biology.
