| General Functions |

This position serves a critical role in ensuring veterans, dependents, and survivors receive accurate, timely, and comprehensive assistance in accessing federal, state, and local benefits. The role also supports office operations, community outreach, inter-agency coordination, and special initiatives.
Work is performed with considerable independent judgement and is under the direction of Veteran Service Officer III/Program Manager and is reviewed through periodic conferences and reports. |

| Representative Duties /Assignments |
| |
Duties may vary based on area of assignment. The following are representative duties; it is not the intent to capture all duties performed by this classification.
- Interpret and apply VA laws, regulations, and procedures to individual cases to ensure accurate benefit eligibility determinations; remain current on changes to federal and state veterans’ benefits programs and communicate updates to clients.
- Conduct thorough interviews with veterans, dependents, and survivors to assess eligibility; review service records, medical documentation, and supporting evidence to develop, submit, and track strong claims and appeals.
- Supervise assigned Veterans Counselors; assess training needs and provide technical guidance on U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and state benefits programs.
- Participate in and contribute to staff meetings and training sessions; evaluate training effectiveness to enhance service delivery, staff knowledge, and client satisfaction.
- Attend workshops, conferences, and training sessions to maintain VA accreditation and pursue cross-accreditation with other Veteran Service Organizations; ensure adherence to HIPAA and federal confidentiality standards.
- Provide front-line support as needed, including walk-ins, phone inquiries, and appointment scheduling; maintain accurate and timely case documentation in client tracking systems.
- Assist the Veteran Service Officer in identifying and pursuing grant opportunities that expand or enhance veterans' services.
- Support and participate in special projects, resource fairs, town halls, and community outreach initiatives; distribute informational materials and professionally represent the office at public events.
- Refer clients to appropriate community resources; collaborate with local, state, and federal agencies to ensure veterans receive comprehensive and integrated support.
- Supervise staff and oversee office operations in the absence of the Veteran Service Officer; attend required meetings.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

| Minimum Qualifications |
| |
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and two (2) years of experience in Veterans benefits administration, program coordination, or case management. In lieu of the degree requirements, additional relevant experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
Must attain Florida Department of Veterans’ Affairs Service Officer certification within one year of hire. |

Must demonstrate intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, case management software (VetPro), document and records management, and collaboration tools. |
